Purpose
What problem does it solve?
Brand files often arrive in one dark or full-color version even when the next layout needs a white mark. Opening a full design application for one color conversion adds unnecessary friction, especially when the source already has the correct shape and transparency.
Image to White replaces the visible red, green, and blue values with white while retaining each pixel’s alpha value. Internal cut-outs and transparent edges remain transparent. Optional cleanup controls help with faint edge pixels or artwork flattened onto a relatively uniform background.

Choose the best source
Start with an SVG or transparent PNG when possible. JPG and WebP also work when the artwork has clear contrast.

Inspect and refine
Preview the result on dark and checkerboard surfaces. Adjust alpha cutoff or flat-background tolerance only when the source needs cleanup.

Download a transparent PNG at the required scale. Keep the original source because the downloaded result is raster artwork.

Behavior you can reason about.
Alpha preservation
Every visible color becomes white, but opacity differences remain. This preserves soft edges more accurately than tracing a hard silhouette.
Background cleanup
For flattened artwork, the tool can sample a flat background color and remove similar pixels. It is not intended for detailed or photographic backgrounds.
Predictable output
The output is always PNG. SVG input is rasterized at the selected dimensions and does not remain vector artwork.
Known limits
Where this tool stops.
- It does not vectorize, redraw, sharpen, or restore missing source detail.
- Complex shadows, gradients, and photographic backgrounds cannot be removed reliably with the flat-background control.
- Very small or heavily compressed artwork may retain visible artifacts after conversion.
- All visible colors become white, so color relationships inside the source are intentionally removed.
Questions
Before you use it.
Does it upload the selected image?
No. The interactive converter processes the image locally with browser APIs and does not send it to a conversion endpoint.
Does transparency remain intact?
Existing alpha transparency is retained. Optional cleanup can also remove a sufficiently uniform background.
Can it accept SVG files?
Yes. SVG input is rasterized in the browser and exported as PNG rather than another vector file.
When should I avoid the background remover?
Avoid it when the background contains texture, lighting variation, shadows, or colors also used inside the artwork.
